Bonnechere Caves specials:
A Post-Glacial cave system formed in limestone from the Ordovician time period. Our guided tours are suitable for all ages.
Located just 90 minutes from Algonquin Park and 80 minutes from Ottawa, in the town of Eganville Ontario, lies the Bonnechere Caves.

Under a hill of limestone, said by geologists to have been the bottom of a tropical sea 500 million years ago, the Caves present a weird and wonderful sight. Stalactites, or rock icicles formed at the rate of one cubic inch in 150 years, hang from the ceiling and the handiwork of nature is enhanced by electric lights. Feel free to bring along your own flashlight and comb our walls and see the literally thousands of fossils that are embedded in our limestone walls. Entombed in the rock and preserved forever can be seen fossils of coral and sea creatures alive long before the age of the Dinosaurs. Millions of years in the making, the Bonnechere Caves are a thrill for the sightseer.

Bonnechere Museum Fossil Hunts - With Caveman Chris and Fossil Stew The Bonnechere Museum Fossil Hunts are getting more popular each summer. People from all over the valley, Ontario and the world show up to take home a piece of an ancient sea bed often with an invertebrate preserved in the old mud or what us locals refer to as limestone. Schedules for the hunts will be handed out at the caves, the museum and tourist booths throughout the summer with three different Eganville businesses giving sponsorship to the schedules with extra value given to people on the days of fossil hunts who show up with their schedules. The schedules also act as coupons. Meadows Unique Décor and Gifts will give 10% off, and Frisco’s Restaurant sponsors a schedule with a coupon for a “Gastropod” entre all year round with any meal. 2010 Fossil Hunting Schedule Canada Day Saturday July 17th Saturday August 21st Saturday September 18th All Fossil Hunts start at the Bonnechere Museum in beautiful downtown Eganville and last 2 hours.
